A litttle introduction…

For those of you reading this I want to give you a short introduction about myself and what this blog is about. I am a college student from California studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain for the fall of 2011. One of the classes I am taking here is called Journalism 2.0 and as part of that class we need to create a blog to discuss class topics as well as our own thoughts and ideas. Some of my posts will be my reactions to ideas, readings, and discussions from class. The rest of my posts will focus on the idea coming from the blog title, Solo Time. The idea of studying abroad has changed over the years, I feel that currently it has a connotation of a vacation, just a bunch of college students off in some amazing place traveling and partying. I´m not going to lie and tell you that I am not here for those things, but I can tell you that I am here for so much more than that. I want to get to know Spanish culture, more deeply than just the tip of the iceberg. My idea for “solo time” is that I want to take time every single week to go off and experience some aspect of Spanish culture on my own. I want to force myself out of my comfort zone of friends and tourist areas and really figure out what Barcelona is all about. This may be anything from something as small as taking a long walk to school and observing the neighborhoods or something bigger like taking a day trip by myself to somewhere in Catalonia. My goal is to grow personally and culturally as I learn about how my culture is different from Spanish culture, finding a way to merge the two along the way.
